SPIRITUAL COMPANIONING
Spiritual Direction/Companioning is the ancient practice of deep listening. When a spiritual director sets aside her own inner chatter and is truly present for another, she can hear beyond the words to a deeper context of what is being said. Or what wants to be said. This space of discernment opens a pathway to clarity and perception and to self-awareness. It allows one to feel heard. Sometimes it is called “holy listening” because when two people find themselves fully in the moment together, there is space for breath and peace.
Holding the space for self-discovery is the essence of the classes I teach. Based on yoga, I call them MAKING FRIENDS WITH SILENCE. With focused movement and breath-work, we work on balance —both physical and mental—as we come into deeper connection with ourselves.
These days, I am invited to do participatory group talks on the practice of centering at places such as Unity Taos and St John’s Cathedral in Denver.
