A Colorado native, I was musically formed by the jazz and big band recordings of my parents. The voice of Ella Fitzgerald blended with the voice of my mother as she sang to me in my crib. Later on, living in LA and San Francisco, I was wildly influenced by the music of the ’60s and early ‘70s. It was everywhere and it was powerful.( I remember dancing even without music! ) Because I was living in Laurel Canyon with a fellow who played electric violin on a lot of albums, I got to hang in the studio with such musicians as Lightnin’ Hopkins, Mike Bloomfield and Electric Flag, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Joni Mitchell, and Paul Horn. I spent most of my time creating art in books I carried around with me. Later I went on to write my own songs and perform in diverse venues from juke joints in Mississippi to night clubs in Paris.
